The light-reflective kinetic sculpture creates the effect of multiple moving extended highlights that elongate and distort space. The shape of the object references an image of the supernova star “Hourglass” - the name from scientific catalogs - 1987A. Collapsing stars have influenced the origin of many chemical elements across the universe. It has been suggested that the solar system in its present form, and thus life on earth, may have come into existence through a supernova explosion. Recent studies have shown that nearby flares in the distant past have influenced changes in climatic conditions. The likelihood of such events in the future cannot be denied.
